earning hard money today was the 1st day i did that bio survey job.. 1 of the last days too =) i would say everything turned out very well.. so much better than i expected.. and its interesting how different ppl of different living environment react so differently at the same qn.. woke up early in the morning and received the addresses.. did a research on streetdirectory to find out which bus go where.. soon i was on my way to tampines, reaching less than 1 hr later.. was amazed that the bus was so fast.. #1 a good uncle abit disappointed when the house assigned to me did not have any1 above 50yrs old... moved a few households and came over to this.. the wife was cooking lunch so the uncle replied my qn ( which was great cos i saved 3 and a half pg of qn =x) didnt ask his wife since they were having lunch alr.. #2 an old ah ma who once had stroke her house was just next door the 1 i was assigned to.. i didnt know she had a stroke until she told me when i sat down.. but i think her walking posture was quite weird, so i went into her house cos i can tell its hard for her to stand for too long.. i think she just wanted some1 to chat with her.. but she met me, who kept toking abt cancer =x #3 an indian lady going chalet with her kids 1hr later the auntie invited me to her house even before i could tell her there would be free voucher.. she had 4 children i think, who were playing very noisily.. but her enthusiasm wore off when she knew the questionaire was soooo long.. haha.. #4 a lonely old lady the whole block was masionettes and my assigned house was on second floor.. so i went 1 door by 1 door until i saw this super handsome guy on the 4th floor!! he was playing the guitar and omg was sooo nice.. the way he told me there were no1 above 50 yrs old in his house was very funny too!! such a pity.. so i continued knocking until the 6th floor, where an old lady was at home.. she kindly invited me to her house so i finally could let my legs rest.. went on to the next assigned house which was a condo.. the security didn let me in but kindly telecom-ed the resident i was assigned to and a few houses beside, but was rejected.. so no choice cannot continue cos he dun want to disturb the residents.. transferred bus from tampines to joo chiat.. was really afraid cos all the houses assigned to me were landed property.. #5 a sick lady, too young for her age the place assigned to me was in an apartment but there were no security and no signs that say 'no trespassing'.. so i just went in.. but that house de auntie wanted me to speak in canto which i cant with my limited vocab in that dialect!! so i went to start from the 1st floor, where the lady (looked really like ruby ng) rejected me.. went all the way up to 4th floor(highest level) but was rejected again.. so went back down and she invited me to her little balcony to do the survey.. cos she thot no1 would help me do so she changed her mind and helped me, despite having a cold.. wow! #6 another good uncle that row of landed property is weird, cos the space infront is soooooo long.. the owners always peep their heads out of the door and expect me to shout across the loooooooong area.. kept moving right until this uncle kindly helped me with the survey.. #7 yet another good uncle who had masters' degree my legs were already breaking apart.. cos i went to find the house assigned, which was at the end of the road ( u know each road is really very very very long in that kind of place) and i walked like more than 2 busstops, only to know that its an apartment.. and the whole area and the neighbouring houses are all apartments -- no entry for me.. so i gave up and went all the way back.. wow how great.. went to another assigned house and no response, as usual... so move right and all the houses had dogs!! so just skip skip skip.. is that why they have dogs?? tried more than 10 households until the last house.. thot no chance le but an uncle came to the door!! #8,9,10 3 super good aunties who mark a nice fullstop for the day this is the worst road ever.. the start of the road was house no. 40 but my assigned house was 100!!! best.. walked in the dark (alr reaching 8pm) deep into the road.. actually i came here earlier in the day but the lady told me her 2 sisters-in-law will only be home at 8.. was quite scary cos was walking alone in the dark.. finally reach the house and they invited me in.. there were so many ppl there.. and the 2 sisters-in-law became 3!!! wahaha.. duno y.. they were really medically inclined cos 1 of them work in the hosptal.. and they bombarded me with lotsa medical facts i didnt know.. lol.. and how nice of them to treat me water and prawn crackers.. after the survey chatted with them abt the new jc system cos they didnt know.. they also directed me the shortcut but still safe way to the mrt station cos it already quite late... weird things of the day -a frustrated uncle opened the door , say 'can i refuse' in the most bu shuang way and slammed the door -a door open just before i was about to press the doorbell but no1 was there.. lucky it was in the afternoon if not i would have freaked out -some malay ladies open the door for me even before i tell them wat i was here for, who eventually had to close it again cos their houses dun have elderly above 50.. lol so that marks the end of my tiring yet fun day.. tml will continue aft the recce for amazing race.. hope can finish the remaining 5 surveys since the rest are apartments and cannot go in the interview.. let's hope tml will be as smooth as today =)) |
